‘The Bamboo Salon team is so thankful to everyone at Keratin Complex who made the experience possible for us. It says a lot about the brand and the company, how far they are willing to go to support you and your team!’

— Amanda Intoccia

Hard to believe, but it’s been a year already since the owners of Bamboo Salon in Staten Island, NY, won the first Salon Today Total Salon Makeover, co-sponsored by Keratin Complex®. And what a year it’s been for the mother-daughter team of Caryann Concilio and Amanda Intoccia!

“Since winning the competition in 2014, Bamboo Salon is booming,” reports Amanda. “We are accommodating about 100 – 115 new clients per month (along with our already large existing clientele).”

The $30,000 prize package included a new computer system from STX and a salon renovation overseen by Takara Belmont—which happened in January. For its part, Keratin Complex pledged the full product portfolio (both retail and backbar) as well as extensive education and marketing support—which happened in stages.

Keratin Complex sent Elite Inspiration Team member Niki Galanomatis and National Sales Manager Alyson White to New York earlier this year to provide hands-on training in hair-color services and product merchandising.

Keratin Complex also invited six Bamboo stylists to the Keratin Complex Academy in Boca Raton, FL.

Flying in to take the Sept. 20 – 21 Signature Techniques class from Deb Gavin, International Artistic Director for Color Therapy™, were Amanda, Denise DeVito, Louis Fedele, Olga Kouloris, Brittany Calcagno, and Lisa Meshel.

“Deb’s extensive knowledge of the Keratin Complex color line and hair color in general is astounding,” Amanda says. “Her willingness to share it with us was even better! We learned techniques that we could easily bring back to the salon and create our own signature color looks for our clients. We have been doing just that ever since the class!”

The knowledge and inspiration imparted by Deb really lit a fire in everyone, Amanda says: “If we could have run back to New York to start working, we would have! We could not wait to start working with the color and formulating ‘the Deb way.’ ”

Indeed, since returning to Staten Island, the stylists have been busy posting examples of their Deb-inspired work, such as the one below!

Concludes Amanda: “From the moment we found out we won the makeover all the way through to present day, the experience has been nothing short of a dream! The support and education we have received—especially from Keratin Complex—has allowed us to take our business from good to great, and we do not plan on stopping there!”
