What happens when you couple Keratin Complex with a pageant queen and a couple of classic muscle cars? You get a fun and creative marketing photoshoot conceptualized by salon owner-cum-radio show host, Mark Rodolico.

Mark is the owner of Mark’s at the Pointe Salon and Boutique in Vero Beach, FL, and a devotee of Keratin Complex’s Smoothing Therapy, Color Therapy and Style Therapy lines. “It’s been great working with such an innovative company,” Mark says. “They continue to raise the bar and provide me with limitless advancements.”

'It's been great working with such an innovative company.'

Mark’s love for Keratin Complex happened to merge recently with two of his hobbies—classic cars and photography—as he created a series of striking, retro-inspired photos that featured a local teen pageant queen posing in front of a 1950s Corvette and a 1960s Mustang.

Enter Kaitlin Ruby, winner of the 2014 Miss Hibiscus Pageant in Vero Beach. In addition to her appearances on local media outlets, Kaitlin has become a spokesperson both for Mark’s salon and his radio show Ask the Hair Guy, which airs four times a week on local radio stations. So it only made sense that Mark needed to capture some great photographic images of his new spokesmodel.

Inspired by old cars and Keratin Complex

For the photoshoot, Mark started with the desire to incorporate the classic cars that he had recently been admiring at a car show. That springboarded into an idea to style the beauty queen as “Rosie the Riveter-meets-a Bobby Soxer.”

“I was inspired by the post-war era when women had a sense of style and a confidence about the contributions they made during the war, but never lost sight of the power of their femininity combined with this newfound confidence that made for a combination of modest, rugged and sexy,” Mark says.

Mark and his salon team used Keratin Complex Color Therapy™ products, including It’s a Blond Thing™ Keratin Lightening System® and KeraHold® Keratin-Enhanced Permanent Crème Hair Color in a light golden blonde to give Kaitlin highlights and lowlights. Then they blew out her hair and hand-sculpted a Victory Roll-inspired loose curl in the back. A red bandana tied into her hair—and set into place with Keratin Complex Flex Flow Flexible Shaping Hairspray—completed the look. Rosie the Riveter never looked so sexy!

In addition to capturing great images of Kaitlin posing in front of the vintage vehicles, Mark also shot some photos of Kaitlin to promote the radio show American Car Classics, which runs on the same stations as Mark’s program. This was to thank the hosts of that show for hooking Mark up with the amazing Corvette and Mustang in the first place.

In return, the American Car Classics guys put Kaitlin on the cover of their newsletter and gave Mark a shout-out on Facebook. And that is how one little photoshoot came full-circle, from past to present, with Keratin Complex along for the very stylish ride!
