The Keratin Complex® Academy in Boca Raton, FL, was abuzz with activity during the first advanced-level hair-coloring course taught onsite. During the Aug. 17 – 18 event, 16 stylists were challenged to elevate their technique and artistry by Deb Gavin, International Artistic Director for Color Therapy™.
The two-day course started out with presentations and classwork, including a review of all the great features and benefits of the Keratin Complex Color Therapy line, concepts in color and design theory, and formulation and application tips from Deb. Then, every student got a chance to practice new hair color formulas and techniques on their own mannequin, under the watchful tutelage of Deb, with an assist from Keratin Complex Inspiration Team Member Daniel Carter.
Those who attended came from around the country, with various backgrounds and interests but one common goal: “To attend the Academy with lead artistic innovators and to be a part of the very first class event,” as stylist Trish DeNoto puts it.
Says stylist Nikki Fiveash: “I have had the opportunity to work with Deb Gavin on several occasions and knew that I would always learn something new and insightful by attending one of her classes.”
“I thought the event was amazing!” raves Trish, a stylist with Salon Inspire in Strongsville, OH, and a Keratin Complex education team member. “The theory was right up my alley in terms of geeky science stuff, but artistically planned to keep our attention.”
“The information was thought-provoking, informative and delivered in a way for everyone in the class to understand,” agrees Nikki, who works with Michael Perez Salon in Rockville, MD, and is also a Keratin Complex educator. “There was a great flow of information and hands-on activity to keep everyone involved and active as part of the class.”
“Deb and Daniel were both so knowledgeable and delivered so much advanced, yet basic information in new and exciting ways compared to traditional classes,” notes Michele Survance, owner of Bespoke Hair in Lancaster, PA, and a member of the Keratin Complex Inspiration Team.
From the Academy to behind the chair
These salon professionals are sure to start implementing all of this new knowledge and inspiration in their own backyards, thereby helping to spread the KeraLove far and wide. Says Nikki: “Deb Gavin did an amazing job teaching a brilliant class that left everyone excited to go back into the salon and work some color magic.”
“I learned some fabulous techniques that upon returning to the studio on Tuesday morning, I was already adapting into my new color trends,” Trish adds. “I also learned some great theory on the products and a ton of knowledge to share with my future class events.”
But for new salon owner Michele, the takeaway will be even greater: “New, relevant, creative terminology will be replacing old-school services on my salon menu to reflect an individual, creative identity for my staff and a unique experience for my guests,” she says. “I am excited to experience, hands-on, the color placements that inspire the Keratin Complex imagery and explore them further to develop my personal color toolbox.”
