As the year’s big Hollywood events continue to roll out, we’re keeping tabs on the stars’ red-carpet looks. The most recent of these was the 2017 Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles.
As always, the female performers who exited limos on Sunday afternoon were polished and glowing. And once again, strapless and/or plunging gowns were everywhere, with a rainbow of colors to choose from.
But among the variety of ensembles on display, we could not help but notice a propensity for side-parted hairdos (kind of like what we saw at the Golden Globes).
Here are some of our favorite celebrity looks that featured a deep side part:

Low updos: Amy Adams, Nicole Kidman
Best-actress nominee Amy Adams (Arrival) arrived in a black Brandon Maxwell gown that featured a deep V and a form-fitting silhouette. She paired it with matching Cartier jewelry that included a silver choker with sapphire pendant, and sapphire earrings. Amy’s red hair was done in a low, braided bun, with wisps of hair framing her face on one side. Her makeup included smoky eyes and a glossy pink lip.
Nicole Kidman was proud of her supporting-actress nomination for Lion. She chose one of the night’s most daring looks—a glittery, plunging, emerald Gucci number adorned with fringe and feathers (reminding some of a “peacock”) that garnered mention on both best- and worst-dressed lists! Nicole also wore her hair in a low chignon (a textured bun) with a sweep of hair to one side. Feather-shaped diamond earrings and minimal makeup completed the look.
Style tip: Keep your sideswept updo flawless all night with a generous spritz of Keratin Complex Flex Flow Flexible Shaping Hairspray.
Short stories: Sarah Paulson, Michelle Williams
Sarah Paulson won lead actress (yet again!) for her role in FX’s American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson. The normally blonde thespian caused quite a buzz when she showed up with darker, reddish-brown hair, worn in a short style with a big sweep of hair to one side. Sarah also wore large diamond hoop earrings, and bright orange lip color to complement her strapless black Vera Wang gown.
The petite Michelle Williams, a supporting actress nominee for the film Manchester by the Sea, paired her stripey, sequined gown from Louis Vuitton with simple makeup (kohl eyeliner, light blush, shiny nude lips) and one accessory only—a black sequined “scarf” tied at the neck. All the better to show off her trademark platinum pixie, worn slightly messy and carved to the side.
Long on glamour: Emma Stone, Naomie Harris
Best-actress winner Emma Stone is on a roll for her role in La La Land. Her outfit for the evening was suitably retro, starting with a floral-patterned velvet and lace gown from Alexander McQueen. Her classic look featured sultry eyes, pink lips and Tiffany diamonds dangling from her ears. The old Hollywood vibe was cemented with Emma’s side-parted hair, worn tucked behind one ear and falling into glossy waves on the other side.
NaomieHarris, who was up for outstanding performance in a supporting role for Moonlight, was a trend-breaker in a diagonally striped satin Lanvin jumpsuit that was trimmed in black. The outfit was accessorized with diamond pendant earrings and multiple necklaces, worn asymmetrically (all from Tiffany). Naomie’s raven tresses were styled sleek and straight, with a deep side part helping to frame her classic features.
Style tip: From super-straight to glamorous waves to curls for days, the Keratin Complex Transformer Interchangeable Styling Rod can do it all!
Daring 'dos: Janelle Monae, Taraji P. Henson
The awards ended on a surprising note, when the cast of Hidden Figures was named best acting ensemble (SAG’s version of best picture). Besides giving heartfelt speeches extolling the film’s message about the power of inclusion, the film’s actresses also featured some of the boldest—and most becoming—looks of the night.
Taraji P.Henson walked the red carpet in a sheer, embellished high-neck gown by Reem Acra, with complementary makeup and wing-shaped diamond earrings. Her textured bob was styled to one side with a deep part—all the better to show off the edgy undercut (shaved portion) on her opposite temple!
R&B singer-turned actress Janelle Monae always walks to the beat of her own drum. Her gray and white dress by Chanel was embellished and ruffly throughout, even at the collar. Smoky eyes and a soft purple lip complemented Janelle’s complexion as well as her striking hairdo: A double bun adorned with fabric flowers and a $45,000 Camélia Galbé headband in 18-karat white gold, black ceramic and diamonds. (It Girl alert: Janelle was also nominated for an ensemble award for Moonlight.)
