When we say everything is coming up roses, we mean it! The rose-colored hair craze, which first surfaced a few years ago, is still going strong.
“Rose is definitely a color trend that hasn’t seemed to hit the back burner yet,” agrees Amanda Perez, education program manager for Keratin Complex®. “It’s very appealing to the eye and adds that subtle fashion kick that women want!”

Iterations of rose and pink hair have been spotted on celebrities in recent months, including pale or “dusty” rose gold hair on Elle Fanning and Hilary Duff, and a darker “desert rose” on Emma Roberts (above); while stars such as Sienna Miller, Blake Lively, Kate Hudson and Kristen Wiig have experimented with pinky rose hair shades in the not-so-distant past.
Closer to home, Keratin Complex stylists have been busy giving their clients various version of rosy pink hair, including rose gold, dusty rose, and our fashion shade rose quartz.
“This color trend is ideal for people with light features, “ Amanda notes. “It helps add warmth that they are most likely lacking.”
In addition, Amanda says, rosy hues are a good option for someone who doesn’t want to go full-on redhead. “If you’re not ready to dedicate yourself to the latest red hair trends, the rosy pink hair color range offers a great gateway to transition yourself. These colors offer the warmth and tonality that come with reds.”
Here are a few recent examples from Keratin Complex salons to supply some rose hair color ideas of your own:
KeraHold® and Metamorfix™ for rose gold hair
Melissa Salvas, a stylist at Creative Corner Family Hair Salon in Coventry, RI, gave her brunette client Jenna a gorgeous rose gold hair color using a formula of KeraHold in lightest violet gold and medium blonde mixed with dollops of Metamorfix direct pigments in extreme red, extreme violet and extreme gold.
“She wanted a big change in any variation of rose gold I wanted to do,” Melissa says. “She loved it!”
Color Therapy™ for a dark blonde with dusty rose strands
At the Beauty Lounge by Haley, in Weatherford, OK, hair artist Haley Estep (who recently was named a grand-prize winner in our Unmask a Hero contest!) gave her client Michelle a summertime dusty rose gold hair color.
“She is a teacher, and because of that we always choose soft, natural tones for her,” Haley explains. “This summer she had time off and wanted to be more adventurous. She came in wanting a rose or pinkish shade in her hair. She wasn't at all picky about the shade, or how I went about placing her color.”
So, Haley first touched up Michelle’s new growth and mid-lengths with KeraHold in a dark golden blonde to “richen her natural color,” and then lightened the ends to a golden blonde using It’s a Blonde Thing in an ombre technique. Last was an application to mid-lengths and ends of a formula comprised of KeraHold in ultra-light violet pearl blonde, lightest ash blonde, dark red brown and violet ash Modifier, plus Metamorfix pigments in extreme red violet.
“I loved that she was so spontaneous on this visit!” Haley says. “We both fell in love with the end result immediately.”
KeraHold for a signature rose quartz hair color
JoJo Cowin, owner of Utopia Hair in West Bay, Cayman Islands, has given her client Sophie different rose shades for the past few color services, including rose gold hair, but this time she “wanted to be a little more daring.”
So, what better color to try than our Keratin Complex signature shade of rose quartz, from our Dare to be Different collection?
JoJo started by lightening Sophie’s root area with KeraHold high-lift in ultra-light extreme natural blonde, then applying the rose quartz formula, which is a mixture of KeraHold in ultra-light blonde with violet and red Intensifiers, throughout the head.
“She was super happy with the results; she was literally smiling from ear to ear,” reports JoJo. “And she said that she got so many compliments at work, and even in the grocery store!”
Color Therapy for peek-a-boo rose quartz panels
Keratin Complex Inspiration Team member Christina Schepart has been experimenting with rose pink hair colors in fun placements as she makes her rounds to salons, spreading the Keralove.
At Stylist Touch in Mount Laurel, NJ, Christina recently worked on a stylist named Eva to add fun peek-a-boo swatches of rose quartz to Eva’s blonde hair.
“Eva already had blonde highlights,” notes Christina, “but I needed to lighten the three block sections to brighten the hair and cancel out the yellow. I pre-lightened with It's a Blonde Thing.”
Christina says that Eva loved the Keratin Complex fashion shade rose quartz, “but wanted it slightly deeper.” So, she foiled the three block sections with a customized KeraHold formula of ultra-light blonde mixed with violet and red Intensifiers and let it process 35 minutes.
“Eva was thrilled with the results,“ reports Christina. “I spoke to her several weeks later, and her color was still as vibrant thanks to KeraHold’s 100% oxidative pigments.”
